- The cylinder is rusted
- the fuel lines are bent and in bad shape
- the spark plug wire is broken
First off will be the exhaust pipe to check on potential gunk... and there will be some cleaning coming ahead, not mentioning the gasket is broken at the fuel line, so this thing must have been releasing gas and fumes all over when it ran last
Next up is the cylcinder head and this should be clean, but...
That's what I feared, there was water in there and a decent amount of gunk too. The decompressor will need to be taken out and completely cleaned as well (screw you see on the left of the opening)
Obvisouly the cylinder and the Piston are also up for a clean up:
Next to be checked the fuel pump. From the outside it looks ok:
From the inside, well, there is jelly looking gunk, which must be oil, but nit the right one. The pump seat is ok, but the membrane will be replaced, this one has a hole in it.
The pump casting will also need a good cleaning. Finally, the two glass balls in the pump are stuck, which means I will need to take it apart and clean it completely
The good news, only one of the three rings is stuck and will need to be heated and cleaned, the bad news is that the cleaning will be extensive...
Next steps?
- Disassemble the carburetor completely, clean, bead blast, oil and reassemble
- Sandblast the cylinder to remove the rust, repaint it with high heat paint, de-gunk, clean, oil
- Sandblast and degunk the exhaust pipe
- Clean, degunk piston, get the rings back in order
- Clean cylinder head, clean decompressor mechanism, break in the dec screw to insure it's tight fitting
- Change all gaskets
- Clean pump, clean pump seat, change the membrane, free glass balls, put back together
- Change and/or clean fuel lines
- Check the coils and points
- Change the spark plug and spark plug wires
- Reassemble whole engine
- Restart Engine
I have my work cut out for me :)
