Bike: 1, Engine: 0

The bike part is now fitted and adjusted together for a first assembly. It will need to be tightened and reviewed when I install the engine. and all the brake cables will need to be properly adjusted. Finally the Electric harness will need to be fitted at that time.

I have installed the CEV controls and the brake lines are now in

The last item I am still looking for is the reflector that should be on the left side of the tail light

Here it is, awaiting the roaring engine (and the chain):

Give me a br(e)ake!

Now that the grips are here, it is time to put together the brakes. The perches were badly bent and the levers needed a good cleaning. First step trying to bend back the perches. Then beadblasting the levers and repainting them silver with a coat of clear

Once painted, things are looking a bit better

back together with the grips, on the bike:

Get a grip!

Found in Germany last month, a replacement for the handlebar grips. These are New Old Stock Magura and are the ones that were originally on the bike. They will find their way on the bike likely tonight or tomorrow with the sandblasted and repainted brake levers

Gone Fishing

Fishing yesterday night, for wires that is... three electric wires have to through the main tube to the back light via the seat post and the back fender.  There is some soldering involved since the wire had to be removed to repaint the bike and all rubber and foam gaskets have to be back in. Not the most efficient use of time, but it has to be done!

The back light was cleaned and checked. One of the reflectors on the left is missing and will have to be located somewhere... I might have one somewhere, I need to look in my pile of junk!

Next the brake levers will be sandblasted and repainted, the perches need to be straightened as they are bent and all the brakes will be set up, most likely tonight!

Getting the front brakes in

A couple of things last night, the rubber brake line pass through is back in place:

I test fitted the front brakes after getting them bead blasted and mounted the front fender, a new rubber mud flap and the brake cover. Next installing the brake lines.

Starting to look like a Solex again

The frame is slowly coming together, the front fork and handlebars are back on. The fender and supports will need to wait since they are attached via the front brakes brackets which are in need of TLC. But it looks like this:

I found some New Old Stock grips in Germany (they were from there, the brand is Magura) and they should be in the mail shortly, so I am hoping to be able to put these back on shortly, which will allow me to do all the cabling. Next step, the breaks, front with all the brackets and cables, and rear, which need to run through the frame, as well as the back light electric harness which also needs to run through the main tube of the frame. I will need to practice my fishing skills first!

Polishing the rust away - Part 2

Second victim of the metal polish and elbow grease, the handlebars, from this
